Supported MySQL Engines

InnoDB is one of two database types supported in MySQL 4.1+. The other is MyISAM which was the only type for MySQL 4.0-. InnoDB is transactional while MyISAM is not.

The following engines are supported

MyISAM: by default
HEAP: Alias for MEMORY
MEMORY: Hash based, stored in memory, useful for temporary tables
MERGE: Collection of identical MyISAM tables
MRG_MYISAM: Alias for MERGE
InnoDB: Supports transactions, row-level locking, and foreign keys
INNOBASE: Alias for INNODB
BDB: Supports trnsactions and page-level locking
BERKELEYDB: Alias for BDB

The following engines are NOT supported

NDBCLUSTER: Clustered, fault-tolerant, memory based tables
NDB: Alias for NDBCLUSTER
EXAMPLE: Example storage engine
ARCHIVE: Archive storage engine
CSV: CSV storage engine
BLACKHOLE: Storage engine designed to act as null storage
