Shared vs. Dedicated Server Email Service

There are two or more parties involved when transmitting an email message. The senders client computer and server and the recipients email server and client computer, in that order. Both servers electronically handshake and process the email message for validity. This processing time can be different, depending on the server and its environment.

Shared Server Email Service
The shared email servers use SmarterMail from www.smartertools.com to process email messages within a server farm environment. They are currently optimized and constantly re-evaluated for speed and performance considering the total amount and size of domains added. Over one million messages get processed per day through the email server farm. The average time for a message to get processed from this farm is under five minutes. However, during peak hours where usage is heavier, this time may be slightly increased. This time average does not include delays created when a message is sent or received from an outside email server like AOL or YAHOO.

Dedicated Server Email Service
To improve the average processing speed per message or for bulk email in excess of 2500 messages, a dedicated server is the solution. A dedicated solution means just that, an email server that only supports your domain/s. Therefore, peak times where usage is heavier do not apply. This time average also does not include delays created when a message is sent or received from an outside email server like AOL or YAHOO.
